Today, the ARC Group was honoured to have been invited through UN-ASG and DG Ibrahima Cheikh Diong to participate in a High-Level Ministerial Roundtable at the Dakar-held UNECA’s 54th Annual Meeting of African Ministers of Finance and Economy.
The panel on “Accelerating the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals in Africa” was a great opportunity for us:
1)to make the case about the urgency of building a strong culture of disaster risk management and financing for Africa;
2)the need to build Africa’s early warning systems and preparedness capacities;
3)the relevancy of innovative financing instruments such as parametric insurance to support Africa’s resilience efforts;
4)the need for the ministers of finance to leverage ARC, their organisation, to mobilise additional resources to help protect the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable communities;
5)the need for Africa to speak with one voice at COP27 in Egypt.
We look forward to strengthening our collaboration with UNECA and other organisations through smart partnership as we continue to join forces to make Africa more resilient vis a vis climate change.
