H.E. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal and Chairman of the AU, and H.E. Lazarus Chakwere, President of the Republic of Malawi, called for increased support for the African Risk Capacity’s (ARC) resource mobilization campaign at the opening ceremony of the AU Extraordinary Humanitarian Summit and Pledging Conference in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. 
 

We are grateful for the call to action in support of ARC by UN-SG Antonio Guterres as we engage in a resource mobilisation drive to help scale up our interventions across Africa following the approval of our fundraising strategy. 

ARC is indeed the result of a great strategic partnership between the African Union and the United Nations. 

As we engage in our resource mobilisation drive to help scale up our interventions across Africa following the completion of our fundraising strategy, we are grateful for the call to action made by the President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Dr Adesina Akinwumi in favour of ARC and its mandate. 

We are also grateful for the support of H.E. President of Senegal, Macky Sall, Chair of the African Union, for his support of our fundraising, hence underscoring the leadership of the African Union in supporting Africa’s resilience efforts vis a vis climate change.

"It is very important for us to take our continental organisation very seriously because its benefits are real. In   Zambia, for example, we made a premium payment of USD250,000 for our drought insurance policy and are about to receive a pay-out of over USD 3 Million which will save many lives. I, therefore encourage ARC to expedite its product diversification to tackle the weather-related natural disasters we face. I also call upon the other Member States to ratify the ARC treaty to allow the organisation to grow and better support African countries.”
