Training of Regulators in Women’s insurance
The training was developed in collaboration between the African Risk Capacity and the International Finance Corporation. The collaboration stems from the focus of both organisations on empowering women, especially in the field of insurance for women. For this purpose, ARC gender Unit and IFC Women Insurance developed the modules centered on the role of insurance regulators in promoting women’s Insurance market.
Both organisations agreed to collaborate on activities that ensure that selected ARC member states, regulators are targeted to create awareness in terms of gender sensitivity, and the key activity in this context would be Gender training for regulators.
The training was thus piloted in Cote d’Ivoire and Zimbabwe in 2023. Because of the positive feedback , it was decided to duplicate the training in other member states.
The main objective was to create awareness amongst insurance regulators and train them, in order to promote women’s insurance market in Rwanda ; and to sensitise the regulators about the importance of a sensitive approach in the insurance industry and promote women’s economic empowerment through insurance.
