The workshop provided a detailed exploration of gender mainstreaming strategies, focusing on identifying and addressing gender issues within the disaster management cycle. Emphasis was placed on having gender-responsive, early warning systems, risk profiles, and contingency plans.
This approach ensures that DRM interventions are inclusive and equitable, addressing the needs of both women and men in disaster-affected communities. The following was achieved to fast-track gender mainstreaming in Somalia. The Commissioner of SoDMA, along with the Directors of Finance and Women and Human Rights Ministries, participated in the policy dialogue panel discussion. They acknowledged women’s significant role in Somali communities and expressed the Somali Government’s commitment to adopting a gender-focused approach and being gender-responsive. Additionally, the Gender Transformative Fund received endorsement from both participants and panel members.
